Day 30 Fairy River

03/04/13
I checked out of the backpackers hostel before the other two and headed for our first hotel where I dropped my bags and picked up some breakfast. I made my way back to the backpackers and bumped into George and Rob, the last time I would see them before 18.00 (they spent the day sunbathing). I relaxed on the veranda reading until 1 where I went and dropped my things back at our hotel then made the return trip back to the backpackers to start my tour. The tour consisted of getting driven around in an old US army jeep and visiting 4 tourist sites. The first one of these was the Fairy River, a slow, warm, shallow river which I walked up chatting to Riemy (an American from Idaho). A side attraction was riding an ostrich, one of the strangest feeling is the world, maybe because I was nearly falling off the whole time. We got back in the jeep and moved on, briefly stopping in a bay to look at a fishing village  there was literally hundreds and hundred of boats of all different shapes and sizes, and awesome sight. The we hit the sand dunes, you could hire quad bikes  although nobody in our group did, Riemy, I and a couple of others did hire sand boards, maybe we were doing it wrong but we didn't manage to shot down the sand like we expected, slightly disappointing.  Back in the jeep we went onto some red sand dunes to watch the sunset, but had to leave before it set. Tonight's dinner was an interesting affair, I ordered some very nice tiger prawns and George and Rob went for snake. More precisely cobra. The head was cut off in front of us, the blood was the poured into a glass (which they both drank) and the heart was ripped out/ Rob ate the heart whilst it was still beating, then proceeded to eat the gall bladder, he bit it first which was a massive mistake, apparently it wasn't the nicest thing he had ever eaten. The snake meat itself was really nice but a pain to get off the bones. We got a couple of free drinks from a bar then hit the hotel for a early night.
